Pittsburgh-based UPMC is acquiring the Sports Surgery Clinic in the Dublin suburb of Santry, Ireland, marking its fourth hospital in the country.
SSC is an independent hospital founded in 2007 by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ray Moran. It is accredited by The Joint Commission International and has 101 patient beds, 40 orthopedic surgery consultants and more than 400 nurses and medical professionals.
The acquisition is subject to approval by Ireland's Competition and Consumer Protection Commission. The acquisition terms have not been disclosed.
"This is an exciting development for all of us involved with Sports Surgery Clinic, and we are delighted to be joining forces with UPMC. It brings together like-minded and innovative teams whose combined experience and expertise will benefit the patients that we serve," Dr. Moran said in a Jan. 16 news release. "We look forward to working with UPMC to build on the legacy of excellence and innovation that the Sports Surgery Clinic has established as we expand the scope and location of our services for the benefit of patients."
