The most common specialty ASCs served in 2022 was orthoedics, according to VMG Health's "ASCs in 2022: A Year in Review" report released Jan. 26.
Along with orthopedics, high-acuity spine and cardiology services grew in the ASc setting in 2022, the report said. Tenet, the parent company of United Surgical Partners International, said about 20 percent of their ASC cases were high-acuity due to an increase in orthopedics and spine, the report said.
Catherine Retzbach, director of ASC operations at Virtua Health, said in the report that ASCs performing high-acuity cases "offer patients more options to have procedures be performed in a high-quality, low-cost environment."
