Sam Taylor, MD, of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, reunited with his AP Biology teacher after nearly 25 years when he operated on her at Hospital for Special Surgery Outpatient Center in Stamford, Conn., Stamford Advocate reported Feb. 4.
Dr. Taylor performed a total reverse shoulder replacement on his former teacher, Arleene Ferko, in 2021. At their first appointment, Dr. Taylor didn't immediately recognize his teacher, but they quickly reconnected, the report said.
"It was like no time had passed," she told the Stamford Advocate.
Ms. Ferko said in the report she remembered Dr. Taylor said he knew he wanted to work in medicine as a high school junior.
"She’s somebody who touched my life," Dr. Taylor said in the release. "For me to have a positive influence on her mobility means a lot to me."
