Geisinger Healthplex State College in Port Matilda, Pa. began performing same-day joint replacements, CBS affiliate WTAJ reported Feb. 20.
The first patient had a total knee replacement and was home a few hours after surgery, the report said.
Same-day joint replacements can reduce infection risks, Geisinger orthopedic surgeon Michael Sobolewski, DO, said in the report.
