Thirty-two U.S. malls have been turned into healthcare facilities, with one-third turning as a result of the pandemic. Orthopedic providers are joining the trend, with four practices moving to empty mall spaces in the last year.
- Allentown, Pa.-based OAA Orthopedic Specialists signed a 15-year lease inside of an unoccupied Planet Fitness in a South Whitehall, Pa., shopping center, according to a March 21 report from Lehigh Valley Live.
- University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center opened an orthopedic ASC in an old Henrietta, N.Y., Sears retail space.
- Lewisburg, Pa.-based Sun Orthopaedics of Evangelical is moving into Susquehanna Valley Mall.
- Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center partnered to purchase a Hoover, Ala.-based shopping mall for $3.9 million.
