Dr. Michelle Carlson operates on NBA player

Michelle Carlson, MD, performed wrist surgery on Naz Reid, a player for the Minnesota Timberwolves in the National Basketball Association, on April 5 in New York City.

Mr. Reid underwent surgery to repair a scaphoid fracture in his left wrist at the Hospital for Special Surgery. He suffered the injury during a game March 29, according to a news release from the team.

Dr. Carlson is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports injuries of the hand, wrist and upper extremities at Hospital for Special Surgery. She also serves as the official second opinion physician for the NBA and a consultant hand surgeon for New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets, two other NBA teams, as well as the New York Mets, a Major League Baseball team.

Kelechi Okoroha, MD, of Mayo Clinic Sports Medicine in Rochester, Minn., consulted on the surgery.

Mr. Reid will be out indefinitely due to the injury, the release said.
