Orthopedic surgeon Army Col. Benjamin "Kyle" Potter, MD, recieved the the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine’s Army Hero of Military Medicine Award.
Dr. Potter spent more than 20 years as an Army surgeon, according to an April 24 news release from Bethesda, Md.-based Uniformed Services University. During his career, he operated on more U.S. war casualties with limb loss than any other military surgeon on active duty.
He developed and advanced multiple techniques and programs to improve care for wounded soldiers, including the advancement of targeted muscle reinnervation surgery. He was also director of surgery at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Dr. Potter currently is chair of USU's department of surgery.
