Orthopedic

Christopher Ahmed, MD, operated on New York Yankees pitcher Jonathan Loáisiga on May 2 in New York City.

The arthroscopic surgery removed a bone spur and loose bodies from the right elbow of Mr. Loáisiga, according to an update from the team.

Mr. Loáisiga started experiencing soreness in his elbow before an April 7 game and has not pitched since.

Dr. Ahmed has served as the head team physician for the Yankees since 2009. He is also an attending orthopedic surgeon at the NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City.

Team manager Aaron Boone said Mr. Loáisiga will not be able to throw for three to six weeks and is expected to return to the field in August or September.
