Orthopedic surgeon pay vs. cost of living in 23 states

The average annual salary for orthopedic surgeons far surpasses the cost of living in multiple states, according to May 2022 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

The BLS shared the annual mean wages for orthopedic surgeons across the U.S., along with other key employment and compensation metrics.

Note: Orthopedic surgeon salary data wasn't available for all states. Salary information was taken from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The minimum cost of living in each state was provided by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Living Wage Calculator. The cost of living is for a single adult with no children before taxes.
