Phil Johnson, MD, has been awarded the USA Hockey Excellence in Safety Award, which honors those who go above and beyond to make hockey safer for participants, following his 30 years of service to the U.S. National junior hockey team.
Dr. Johnson served as the team's physician for the 16th and final time in 2023, according to a June 6 report from USA Hockey.
He is an orthopedic surgeon at Orthopedic & Sport Medicine Specialists of Fargo (N.D.). He has also served as team physician for West Fargo High School and Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., for the last 20 years.
Dr. Johnson has also served as team physician for the U.S. teams at the 2019 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, the 2018 Olympic Winter Games and several under-17 and under-18 international competitions since 2000.
