Neal ElAttrache, MD, is set to perform an elbow procedure on Dustin May, a pitcher for MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers, on July 18 in Los Angeles.
The surgery is to repair the flexor tendon in Mr. May's right elbow, and he will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, according to a July 4 report by ESPN.
Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. He also serves as head team physician for the Dodgers and the NFL's Los Angeles Rams, and is an orthopedic consultant for the NBA's Los Angeles Kings and Los Angeles Lakers, as well as the NHL's Anaheim Ducks.
Mr. May has not pitched since May 17 due to a strained elbow and underwent Tommy John surgery on the same elbow in May 2021.
