Neal ElAttrache, MD, operated on James Kaprielian, a pitcher for the Oakland Athletics, Aug. 2 at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.
Dr. ElAttrache performed shoulder surgery on Mr. Kaprielian's right posterior labrum, according to an Aug. 2 news release from the Athletics.
Mr. Kaprielian had not pitched since June 27 due to a strained right shoulder.
The surgery will cause Mr. Kaprielian to miss the remainder of the 2023 MLB season, the release said.
Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, another MLB team, and the Los Angeles Rams, the city's NFL franchise. He also serves as an orthopedic consultant to two NHL teams — the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks — as well as the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
