WVU Medicine Orthopedics earns Own the Bone Star Performer designation

Orthopedic

Morgantown-based West Virginia Medicine Orthopedics has received the Own the Bone Stage Performer designation from the American Orthopaedic Association.

The designation is awarded to facilities that provide the highest level of fragility fracture and bone healthcare, according to an Aug. 11 news release from WVU Medicine Orthopedics.

To receive the designation, institutions must reach a 75 percent compliance rate in at least five out of the 10 Own the Bone prevention measures, which include patient education, bone mineral density testing, discussing pharmacotherapy and treatment when necessary and providing written communication on specific risk factors and treatment recommendations.

WVU Medicine Orthopedics has established a fracture liaison service through the program, which helps document, track and benchmark care of fragility fracture patients.
