James Voos, MD, performed knee surgery on Nick Chubb, a running back for the NFL's Cleveland Browns on Sept. 29.
The operation repaired damage to Mr. Chubb's medial capsule, meniscus and medial collateral ligament, according to a Sept. 30 news release from the team.
A second surgery will be scheduled to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in the next few months.
The team estimates that Mr. Chubb will be able to return to the field at some point during the 2024 NFL season.
Dr. Voos is the head team physician for the Browns and chair of the orthopedic department at University Hospitals and Case Western Reserve University, both based in Cleveland.
The surgery was performed at University Hospitals Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute in Beachwood, Ohio, the release said.
