Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed shoulder surgery on Manny Machado, a player for MLB's San Diego Padres, in Los Angeles on Oct. 3.
The procedure was to repair a right extensor tendon, according to an Oct. 3 report by espn.com.
Mr. Machado did not play the field at the end of the season to avoid adding strain to his shoulder. On Sept. 19, he said that surgery was likely to fix the issue.
The expected recovery time is four to six months, which should allow him to return during spring training next year, the report said.
Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers, another MLB team, and the Los Angeles Rams, the city's NFL franchise. He also serves as an orthopedic consultant to two NHL teams — the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks — as well as the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
