Charlotte, N.C.-based OrthoCarolina will begin 2024 with a new CEO in charge, as Leo Spector, MD, will succeed Bruce Cohen, MD, according to an Oct. 13 report from the Charlotte Business Journal.
Dr. Cohen will step down on Jan. 1 after eight years as CEO of the practice. He will return to clinical practice through the organization's foot and ankle institute.
Dr. Spector is an orthopedic spine surgeon who has spent 17 years in various leadership roles at OrthoCarolina, including chief quality officer, chairman of the quality/value committee and co-fellowship director at the organization's spine center. He will continue to operate on patients as CEO, according to the report.
Dr. Spector has been instrumental in helping OrthoCarolina to establish new clinics, ASCs and orthopedic urgent care facilities. He was also influential in OrthoCarolina's partnership with EmergeOrtho.
"Given his long-standing status as a provider in our spine center and his leadership of our value-based initiatives, I have immense confidence that Dr. Spector is well prepared to guide our company into its next phase of growth and innovation," Dr. Cohen told the Business Journal.
