James Andrews, MD, will retire from his role as Auburn (Ala.) University football's orthopedic surgeon and medical director.

Dr. Andrews will retire from the role at the end of the 2023 football season, according to a Nov. 9 news release. His history with Auburn University goes back to 1969 when he came to study under Jack Hughston, MD.

Dr. Andrews is a recognized leader in sports medicine and was recognized for his work at Auburn's Oct. 21 game.

"It's been a good ride," Dr. Andrews said in the release. "I'm going to miss being down on the field. It's time for me to turn it over to the younger guys like Dr. Hughston did for me."
