Central Maine Health Ventures, a subsidiary of Auburn-based Central Maine Healthcare, is attempting to acquire full ownership of its orthopedic ASC, Central Maine Orthopaedics Ambulatory Surgical Center in Auburn, according to a Dec. 1 report from the Sun Journal.
The ASC is one of the largest outpatient orthopedic facilities in New England and specializes in arthroscopic hand, ankle, foot, knee, shoulder and hip surgery; fracture surgeries; carpal tunnel releases; ACL reconstructions; and rotator cuff repairs.
Currently, 50% of the ASC is owned by Spectrum Healthcare Partners. For the last two years, Central Maine Health has been responsible for the ASC's day-to-day operations, and all of its physicians and team members have been employed by Central Maine Medical Center.
After the transaction is complete, Central Maine Health will take over 100% of the ASC's management responsibilities.
Owning 100% of the center will allow patient medical health records to be integrated under one parent company and will allow specialists across the whole Central Maine system access to records, according to the report.
Spectrum used to own the entirety of the ASC before giving Central Maine Health 25% ownership four years ago. A year later, it gave the system an additional 25%.
