Campbell Clinic's Dr. Marcus Ford earns AAHKS honor

Orthopedic

Germantown, Tenn.-based Campbell Clinic orthopedic surgeon Marcus Ford, MD, has earned the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons' Clinical Research Award.

The award is given in recognition of an outstanding clinical paper in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty, according to a Dec. 22 press release sent to Becker's.

Dr. Ford's study investigated the use of extended postoperative oral tranexamic acid for total knee arthroplasty.

His research found that the drug controls bleeding in patients and has anti-inflammatory effects. The study found that patients who received tranexamic acid via a pill after surgery had significant knee flexion, improved motion, and better pain and functional scores than the patients who did not use postoperative oral tranexamic acid.

Dr. Ford has advanced fellowship training in hip and knee replacement, resurfacing and preservation for Campbell. He also performs a large volume of primary total hip and knee replacements in the mid-South each year, according to the release.
