Two playoff football games played on Jan. 28 determined that the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers are headed to the 2024 Super Bowl in Las Vegas on Feb. 11.
Heading to Vegas alongside the players is also a team of primary care and musculoskeletal specialists providing care for the players both on and off the field.
Here are the care teams headed to the 2024 Super Bowl:
Michael Monaco, MD, is the head team physician and an internal medicine specialist for the Chiefs. He practices internal medicine at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kan. He is also an assistant clinical professor at the University of Kansas Medical School in Kansas City.
J. Paul Schroeppel, MD, is the head team orthopedic surgeon. He is also a sports medicine and arthroscopy specialist at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City.
Jean-Phillipe Darche, MD, is a family medicine practitioner. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a sub-certification in sports medicine, and he formerly played in the NFL for nine years. He practices medicine at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City.
Scott Mullen, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He is also a team physician for the Kansas City Royals baseball team. He is also a program director for the university's orthopedic sports medicine fellowship program.
Lucas Thompson, MD, is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine with a sub-certification in sports medicine. He played football in college and provides primary care for the Chiefs. He practices at the University of Kansas Health System.
Bryan Vopat, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at the University of Kansas Health System. He specializes in sports-related conditions. Previously, he provided care for the New England Revolution, Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
Timothy McAdams, MD, is the head team physician and orthopedic surgeon for the 49ers. He is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine and arthroscopy specialist at Stanford (Calif.) Medicine.
Anthony Saglimbeni, MD, is an internal medicine and sports medicine specialist. He has his own Bay Area medical practice, the West Coast Sports Institute, where he provides internal medicine, primary and sports medicine care.
Geoffrey Abrams, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine and shoulder surgery specialist at Stanford Medicine. He serves as director of sports medicine for varsity athletics at Stanford University, head team physician for numerous Stanford varsity sports, assistant team physician for the 49ers and previous assistant team physician for the Golden State Warriors basketball team.
William Maloney, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in joint replacements and arthritis at Stanford Medicine. He is also the Boswell Chair of Orthopedics for Stanford.
