The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons has honored three orthopedic surgeons.
Joshua Jacobs, MD, earned the 2024 William W. Tipton Jr., MD, Leadership Award, the AAOS said Feb. 14. He is former CEO of the AAOS and chair emeritus of Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center's orthopedic surgery department. He published more than 290 peer-reviewed articles and spent 15 years as Rush's orthopedic residency director. He was president of the AAOS for the 2013-2014 term.
Duane Anderson, MD, earned the 2024 Humanitarian Award. He is being recognized for his orthopedic surgery work in Ethiopia. He moved from Idaho to Ethiopia in 2005 where he became chief of orthopedics at Soddo Christian Hospital.
Boris Zelle, MD, earned the 2024 Diversity Award. He is vice chair of research and chief of orthopedic trauma at UT Health San Antonio and serves an underserved patient population. He has served as a mentor to students, residents and fellows with diverse backgrounds.
