The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on Feb. 14 named its first and second vice presidents for the 2024-2025 term.
Annunziato (Ned) Amendola, MD, is the first vice president and is next in line to be president of the organization in 2025, according to a news release. He has been chief of sports medicine at Duke University in Durham, N.C., since 2015 and was named executive director of Durham-based the James R. Urbaniak, MD, Sports Sciences Institute in 2018. He has been with the AAOS for more than 28 years.
Wilford Gibson, MD, is second vice president and is in line to lead the AAOS in 2026, according to a news release. Dr. Gibson has been in AAOS leadership for more than a decade and earned the AAOS 2022 Congressional Ambassador of the Year Award. He is an associate professor at Norfolk-based Eastern Virginia Medical School and a clinical assistant professor of surgery at Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md.
