Brian Cole, MD, was named acting chair of orthopedic surgery at Rush University after Joshua Jacobs, MD, stepped down, according to an internal email shared with Becker's.
Dr. Jacobs was chair of orthopedics at Chicago-based Rush for 16 years, the Feb. 20 email said. He moved to become director of the Rush Arthritis and Orthopaedics Institute.
Dr. Cole became acting chair of orthopedics Feb. 1. He is a professor and managing partner of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rust, and he has served multiple leadership roles within the organization. He is a sports medicine surgeon and was appointed to the Dr. Ralph and Marian C. Falk Endowed Chair of Biochemistry in 2020. Dr. Cole is also head of the Cartilage Restoration Center at RUSH University Medical Center.
In addition to his responsibilities at Rush, Dr. Cole is the head team physician for the Chicago Bulls and co-team physician for the Chicago White Sox.
Lena Al-Harthi, PhD, also accepted the role of the vice dean. She is currently chair of the microbial pathogens and immunity department, head of the division of translational science and program director of the Rush Initiative to Maximize Student Development.
