Tyler Noble, DO, performed the first smart knee replacement in the Conway, S.C., region.
Dr. Noble, of OrthoSC, used Zimmer Biomet's Persona IQ total knee replacement implant, according to a March news release shared with Becker's. The implant measures patient movement, steps and other recovery metrics, and it uses Bluetooth to share data to a mobile app.
"We're really thrilled to introduce Persona IQ, the world's first smart knee implant, to our patients who are thinking about knee replacement surgery," Dr. Noble said in the news release. "This groundbreaking innovation gives us access to real-time kinematic data straight from the implant after surgery. This means any potential issues or complications can be detected and addressed early, leading to better outcomes for patients."
