Neal ElAttrache, MD, performed shoulder surgery on Matt McLain, an infielder for the Cincinnati Reds.
The procedure was to address cartilage damage and repair the labrum in Mr. McLain's left shoulder, according to a March 27 report from MLB.com.
Mr. McLain suffered the injury to his shoulder during a spring training workout.
There is not a definitive timeline for Mr. McLain's return, but Reds president of baseball operations hopes that he can come back at some point during the 2024 MLB season, according to MLB.com.
Dr. ElAttrache is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Rams, an NFL team, and the Los Angeles Dodgers, the city's MLB franchise. He also serves as an orthopedic consultant to two NHL teams — the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks — as well as the NBA's Los Angeles Lakers.
