U of Colorado establishes orthopedic foot, ankle company

A team of experts at Aurora-based University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus has established APEX Orthopedics Investments, an asset management company dedicated to the foot and ankle orthopedic sector.

APEX was founded by CEO and president Christopher Banas, chairman of the board Murray Penner, MD, chief medical officer Greg Berlet, MD, and chief innovation officer Stephen Brigido, DPM, according to a May 7 press release. 

The team has four decades of combined experience in product development and has collectively launched over 200 products, generating a cumulative revenue of $3 billion. 

APEX will drive novel solutions in fixation hardware, mid-foot arthrodesis, mid-foot arthroplasty and more. It already has 12 pending patents in the U.S. and overseas, as well as 73 invention disclosures.
