Demand for outpatient knee replacements in hospitals continued to grow in the first quarter, according to Strata's "Performance Trends Report: Market Analysis and Hospital & Patient Volume Benchmarks First Quarter 2024."
Although year-over-year growth in inpatient revenue exceeded outpatient revenue overall, the share of same-day knee replacements exceeded 80% in the first quarter, up from about 20% five years ago.
The outpatient share of hip replacements also grew past 60%, the report said. That figure in 2019 was 1.2%.
Overall the share of outpatient procedures grew from 34% in January 2019 to 45% in March 2024. The report includes data from 473 hospitals in hip and knee procedure analyses.
