The majority of orthopedic surgeons say their income is either somewhat or considerably affected by competing physician practices, according to Medscape's 2024 "Orthopedist Compensation Report," published May 24.
While 46% say their income is somewhat affected, an additional 13% report being considerably affected. Only 42% of orthopedic surgeons said they are not affected at all by competing practices, a smaller share than physicians overall (64%).
In contrast, the majority of orthopedic surgeons said they do not see any income effects due to other medical businesses.
Only 27% of orthopedists see an income impact due to other medical businesses, compared to 72% who see no effect.
