Dr. Jeffrey Dugas performs surgery on Red Sox pitcher

Orthopedic

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Garrett Whitlock traveled to Alabama to undergo right elbow surgery performed by Jeffrey Dugas, MD, a surgeon at the Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopedics Center in Birmingham, Ala., according to a May 30 report from MassLive.

Mr. Whitlock was able to avoid Tommy John surgery, and instead underwent a right elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair with internal brace.

Mr. Whitlock hopes to return to the field in the 2025 season, but will not be able to pitch in 2024. He last pitched for the team on April 16, experiencing an oblique strain.

After reporting elbow pain he underwent imaging that showed ligament damage in his pitching elbow.
