Keith Meister, MD, successfully performed elbow surgery on Baltimore Orioles pitcher Tyler Wells, according to a June 17 report by Fox 45 News.
The procedure, performed June 17, was a right elbow revision ulnar collateral ligament surgery with UCL repair and internal brace augmentation.
The surgery is an alternative to Tommy John surgery, which has a recovery time of approximately 18 months.
Mr. Wells will miss the remainder of the 2024 MLB season, but will likely have a shorter recovery time compared to a Tommy John procedure. Mr. Wells had Tommy John surgery in 2019.
Dr. Meister is the director of sports medicine at the Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedic Surgery in Arlington and is the head team physician for the Texas Rangers.
