Gloria Beim, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist at Gunnison (Colo.) Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic, is heading to Paris in July for her fourth Olympic Games with Team USA.
Dr. Beim will serve as Team USA's head physician for the 2024 games, according to a June 24 news release from Gunnison Valley Health.
Dr. Beim has treated U.S. athletes at three previous Olympic Games and four Paralympics. She first started working with USA Cycling in 1997 and later traveled with the U.S. Olympic ski team to the World University Games in Italy in 2003.
She has served Olympians and Paralympyians at the games in Athens, London, Sochi, Russia, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo, Beijing and Pyeongchang, South Korea.
In Sochi, she served as chief medical officer for the U.S. delegation. Around half of the medical professionals traveling with team USA, including Dr. Beim, work as volunteers.
