Amanda Martin, DO, an orthopedic surgeon based in Nashville, Tenn., is headed to Paris this summer to serve as the head team physician for the U.S. Olympic women’s soccer team, according to a July 9 report from NBC affiliate WSMV.
Dr. Martin previously worked with the team in 2019 at the Women's World Cup, when the U.S. took home the championship.
Dr. Martin will focus on disease, injury and illness prevention for the team. Knee and ACL injuries are especially prevalent in professional soccer, and she told the news station that, ACL injuries are eight times more likely to happen to female athletes.
Dr. Martin specializes in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder, hip, and elbow at Elite Sports Medicine + Orthopedics.
She is one of many healthcare providers traveling to Paris with aU.S. teams and athletes for the Olympics.
