Orthopedic groups were among specialties with the most merger and acquisition deals in 2023, according to a VMG Health report, and that activity has continued into 2024.
Here are six orthopedic practice and devicemaker mergers and acquisitions that Becker's has reported since April 24:
1. Oakland, Md.-based WVU Medicine Garrett Regional Medical Center added Garrett Regional Orthopaedics, formerly known as Garrett County Orthopaedics, to its network. The group's three specialists are now part of the WVU health system.
2. Spire Orthopedic added Providence-based Ortho Rhode Island's six practices and its affiliated ASC. Ortho Rhode Island will operate under its current brand.
3. Olympia (Wash.) Orthopaedic Associates joined PELTO Health Partners. Olympia Orthopaedic's spine center, two clinics, urgent care center, ASC and its 31 affiliated physicians joined PELTO's network of five groups with more than 500 physicians.
4. Stryker acquired Artelon, a maker of soft tissue fixation products for foot and ankle and sports medicine.
5. Artificial intelligence-driven orthopedic robotics company Monogram Orthopaedics merged its wholly owned subsidiary, Monogram Technologies, into Monogram Orthopaedics. The merged company now operates as Monogram Technologies.
6. Peoria, Ill.-based OSF Health signed a clinical co-management agreement with OrthoMidwest.
