Arizona
In 2023, Maziyar Kalani, MD, became the first surgeon in Arizona to use augmented reality "smart goggles" for spinal surgery.
California
Surgeons at Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in Torrance are using augmented reality to aid in hip replacement procedures.
In October, surgeons at Stanford (Calif.) Medicine performed the first spine surgery using Surgical Theater's augmented reality technology.
In 2023, Tyler Smith, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon at Sacramento-based Sutter Health, completed his 50th case using Augmedics' Xvision spine navigation system.
Florida
In February, West Palm Beach-based HCA Florida JFK North Hospital became the first facility in the county to add X-ray vision spine surgery technology.
In September, Sarasota Memorial Hospital added Augmedics' Xvision spine system.
In 2023, Jonathan Hyde, MD, president and lead orthopedic surgeon at Miami Spine Specialists, completed his 100th procedure using the Augmedics' Xvision spine navigation system.
Illinois
In 2023, Richard Broderick, MD, a neurosurgeon at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin, completed his 50th procedure using Augmedics' Xvision spine navigation system.
Kansas
In 2023, Brian Ipsen, MD, an orthopedic spine surgeon in Galena, completed his 300th case using the Augmedics Xvision spine navigation system.
Mississippi
In July, orthopedic surgeon Phillip Myers, DO, of Singing River Orthopedics in Ocean Spring, became the first surgeon in the state to perform surgery using an augmented reality technology called HipInsight.
Missouri
In December, Scott Luhmann, MD, of Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, completed the first pediatric deformity case with the VisAR augmented reality system.
New Jersey
In December, neurosurgeons with Hackensack-based New Jersey Brain and Spine completed the state's first procedures with Augmedics' Xvision system.
New York
In 2022, Frank Cammisa, MD, completed the first augmented reality-assisted spine surgery at New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery.
Tennessee
In 2022, Nicholas Shepard, MD, of Nashville-based Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance, completed the first augmented reality-assisted spine surgery in the state.
Texas
In May, Paul Chin, MD, PhD, an orthopedic surgeon at The Woodlands-based Sterling Ridge Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, became the first in the state to use Medacta's NextAR shoulder augmented reality surgical platform.
Virginia
In 2023, Anup Gangavalli, MD, of OrthoVirginia, completed the first augmented reality spine surgery in Richmond.
Wyoming
In 2023, Chris Hill, DO, a spine surgeon with Jackson-based Teton Orthopaedics, completed his 50th case using Augmedics' Xvision augmented reality spine system.
