From surgeon retirements to lease battles, here are the reasons four orthopedic and spine clinics have decided to permanently close their doors in the last year:
1. In June, Reno (Nev.) Orthopedic Center closed its express clinic in Sparks, Nev., after learning its lease for the space would not be renewed.
2. In March, Kimball, Neb.-based Highpoint Spine and Joint Center permanently closed its Sidney, Neb., location. Practice owner and chiropractor Ryan Behrend made the decision to close the location to prioritize spending more time with his growing family.
3. The Salem, Ore.-based Willamette Surgery Center, which provided joint replacements for patients in the area for over 20 years, shuttered after it was purchased by Salem Health.
4. In November, Centra Health's Southside Orthopedic practice closed its location in Farmville, Va., after the location's orthopedic surgeon, William Andrews, MD, retired.
