The Joint Commission recognizes health systems across the U.S. with a gold seal of approval for various specialties, including spine and hip-related measures, based on a number of performance measures.
Accreditations include on-site reviews, evaluation of pre- and postsurgical care and patient education metrics.
Here are 12 systems that have secured accreditations from The Joint Commission this year:
1. Cincinnati-based Good Samaritan Hospital became the first hospital in Ohio to earn The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for advanced certification in spine surgery.
2. Newport (R.I.) Hospital earned The Joint Commission's advanced certification for total hip and knee replacements.
3. Charlotte, N.C.-based Atrium Health Pineville earned The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for advanced certification in spine surgery.
4. Santa Barbara (Calif.) Cottage Hospital's brain and spinal tumor program earned The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for brain tumor certification.
5. Good Samaritan Medical Center in West Palm Beach, Fla., earned The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for advanced total hip and knee replacement, shoulder replacement and spine surgery.
6. The Youngstown (Ohio) Orthopaedic Surgery Center earned a gold seal of approval for ambulatory healthcare accreditation from The Joint Commission.
7. Long Branch, N.J.-based Monmouth Medical Center earned The Joint Commission's disease specific certification for total hip, knee and spine.
8. Front Royal, Va.-based Valley Health Warren Memorial Hospital earned The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for total knee and total hip replacements.
9. Chillicothe, Ohio-based Adena Health had its advanced total hip and knee replacement certification renewed by The Joint Commission.
10. Danbury (Conn.) Hospital was awarded The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for spine care.
11. Morganton, N.C.-based UNC Health Blue Ridge's spine center earned The Joint Commission's gold seal of approval for the second time.
12. Elkins, W.Va.-based Tygart Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine of Davis Medical Center earned the gold seal of approval from The Joint Commission for total joint replacements.
