Becker's reported on three lawsuits and litigation involving orthopedic surgeons in the last month.
1. Civil lawsuits against an orthopedic surgeon accused of hiding a camera in his practice’s bathroom will proceed. The civil lawsuit was filed against Spencer Greendyke, MD, by 16 anonymous plaintiffs. Dr. Greendyke’s wife and medical practice are also named in the lawsuit.
2. Michael Laird, MD, orthopedic surgeon at San Luis Obispo, Calif.-based Central Coast Orthopedic Medical Group, is facing a lawsuit claiming he replaced a knee with hardware that he knew was too big.
3. Former New Providence N.J.-based Summit Health orthopedic surgeon Michael Cushner, MD, is seeking $6 million from the system alleging underpayment. Dr. Cushner filed a complaint in the Westchester Supreme Court on July 23, alleging that Summit underpaid him when it took over Westmed Medical Group. Summit and its affiliates "acted in bad faith" by failing to credit him for his performance and forced him "to change his coding practices," according to the complaint.
