How Rothman is performing 8 months after announcing layoffs

In January, Philadelphia-based Rothman Orthopaedic Institute announced plans to lay off 5% of its workforce beginning Jan. 8. 

Here are 11 key performance notes from the company over the last year: 

1. In July, Rothman partnered with the Hurt! orthopedic mobile application in its Florida market to offer patients free access to specialists around the clock, every day of the year. 

2. In July, Rothman was named one of the top 50 "Best Hospitals for Orthopedics" for 2024-25 by U.S. News & World Report.

3. The American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons named Rothman one of the top 50 adult reconstruction fellowship programs in the U.S. for 2024. 

4. In July, physicians with Rothman assisted with the creation of the NeuroSleeve, a device for patients with paralysis.

5. In June, Rothman broke ties with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles over future malpractice risk.

6. In May, Rothman entered into a legal fight with two of its former partners, Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health and Jersey City, N.J.-based CarePoint Health over alleged poaching of its physicians and for unpaid bills, respectively.

7. In April, G. Russell Huffman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Rothman, completed the first reverse total shoulder arthroplasty using the Apple Vision Pro. 

8. In March, Independence Blue Cross and Rothman extended their value-based care agreement by three years. The organizations have had their value-based care agreement since 2018.

9. In February, Rothman unveiled its relocated Lake Nona office in Orlando, Fla.

10. In February, Mediplex Property Group opened a new facility in Newtown, Pa., fully leased to Rothman. 

11. In January, the Rothman Orthopaedic Surgery Center in Bensalem, Pa., was ranked as one of the cleanest by CMS' Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems.
