Health consultant launches orthopedic recovery program

Orthopedic

Marquis Health Consulting Services has launched a program targeted at providing orthopedic patients with targeted at-home support immediately following hospital discharge, according to an Aug. 22 report from McKnights.

The OrthoWIN program aims to address social inequities that might slow patient recoveries and streamline care to help reduce overall healthcare costs.

Federal data has shown that patients sent home immediately following orthopedic and spine surgeries often need additional skilled care because of social determinants, including space limitations that might keep them from doing therapy at home or transportation issues that limit their access to follow-up care.

OrthoWIN, now live in 23 facilities in the mid-Atlantic region, is designed to appeal to acute care partners who are seeking to reduce spending and lower rehospitalizations following joint care.

OrthoWIN uses an integrated treatment plan that includes pain management and physical therapy, coordinating between the patient’s surgeon to facilitate a "warm handoff" from surgeon to rehabilitation providers.

Patients who do not have adequate home support are identified by hospital-based case managers and care navigators, who help the OrthoWIN team prepare for a person’s specific needs.
