Des Plaines, Ill.-based Illinois Bone & Joint Institute recently experienced a cybersecurity incident affecting 182,670 individuals.
The practice detected unauthorized access to certain computer systems on its network July 4, according to a notice on the practice's website. An investigation determined that an unauthorized third party accessed the practice's network and certain files between May 30 and July 4.
Some of the data that may have been accessed in the incident includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, medical treatment information and health insurance information.
The practice said it is not aware of any data accessed during the incident being misused, but it is offering complimentary identity theft protection services for individuals whose Social Security numbers were potentially involved in the incident.
IBJI submitted the incident to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights Breach Portal Aug. 30.
