On Oct. 20, the New York Liberty won their first WNBA championship, beating the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime, according to an Oct. 21 report from CNBC.

While the Liberty have played in five final games, the team was the lone WNBA franchise without a championship title.

In May, the team extended its care partnership with New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, which has been the official care partner of the team for 19 seasons.

HSS is the longest-standing corporate partner of the New York Liberty.

Physicians providing care for the team include HSS orthopedic specialists Benedict Nwachukwu, MD, and Riley Williams III, MD.

Dr. Nwachukwu specializes in hip, knee and shoulder surgery. He is also the co-director of clinical research for the sports medicine institute at HSS and an associate professor of orthopedic surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College.

Dr. Williams specializes in knee, shoulder and elbow surgery, as well as sports medicine. He is also the medical director and head team orthopedic surgeon for the Brooklyn Nets.

HSS physicians Ashley Austin, MD, Gabby Ode, MD, Holly Johnson, MD, and James Robinson, MD, also provide care and support for the Liberty.
