The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center's UR Medicine Orthopaedics & Physical Performance Center has earned a $25 million donation from the Saunders Foundation, led by entrepreneur and philanthropist Philip Saunders.
The gift will support novel research and clinical programs in orthopedics, according to an Oct. 23 press release.
In recognition of the gift, the orthopedic facility will be renamed the Saunders Center for Orthopaedics & Physical Performance.
In addition, an endowed research fund and professorship in the department of orthopedics will be named for Dean’s Professor Michael Maloneym, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and director of the Center for Human Athleticism Musculoskeletal Performance and Prevention at URMC.
