Faster recovery for hip replacements in outpatient surgery — 5 notes

Orthopedic

Patients undergoing hip replacement procedures should consider outpatient surgery as their primary option, according to News 8.

Here are five notes:

1. Phil Minotti, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Connecticut Orthopaedic Specialists, specializes in direct anterior minimally invasive hip replacement, going through the front of the hip as opposed to the side or the rear.

2. The majority of patients undergoing hip replacements tend to be younger without multiple co-existing medical problems.

3. Patients are administered a local anesthetic.

4. Recovery for patients is relatively quick and easy, with many patients walking upstairs within three to four hours after surgery.

5. Many of Dr. Minotti's patients are on Tylenol or Motrin by the end of the week post-surgery.
