Robert LaPrade, MD, PhD, of Vail, Colo.-based The Steadman Clinic, received the 2015 Alumni Career Award from The University of Maine Alumni Association in Orono.
Here are five highlights:
1. The University of Maine Alumni Association grants the award based on a lifetime professional achievement. Past recipients include Stephen King, Admiral Gregory Johnson and Senator Olympia Stowe.
2. Dr. LaPrade has published more than 240 peer-reviewed articles and is regarded as one of the most prolific researchers in sports medicine.
3. He currently serves as the director of biomechanics research at the Steadman Philippon Research Institute.
4. Surgeons around the globe use many of the anatomic-based knee construction procedures developed and tested through Dr. LaPrade's research.
5. Dr. LaPrade graduated from the University of Maine in 1981 and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in forest engineering.
Dr. LaPrade said, "It is both humbling and an honor to have been given this award. I am grateful to have had a number of influential professors at the University of Maine who taught me to work hard. I attribute a great deal of my success to their mentorship and influence. It has served as a foundation for my own career as a physician scientist."
