New minimally invasive rotator cuff repair offers less recovery time — 3 notes

Orthopedic

The Japanese procedure, superior capsule reconstruction, involves a shorter procedure and recovery time than the traditional irreparable rotator cuff surgery technique, according to Fox News Health.

Here are three things to note:

1. The minimally invasive procedure is outpatient and takes less than one hour to perform.

2. Orthopedic surgeon Joshua Dines, MD, of New York-based Hospital for Special Surgery, said some of his patients experience pain relief right after the surgery.

3. The traditional shoulder replacement surgery is invasive and requires a patient to stay in the hospital following surgery.
