Andrew Wassef, MD, has been named the new medical director of the MemorialCare Joint Replacement Center at the California-based hospital Long Beach Memorial.
As medical director, Dr. Wassef's first goal will be to grow the use of MAKOplasty, a surgeon-controlled robotic arm system that assists with hip and knee replacement surgeries.
Here are three things to know about Dr. Wassef:
1. He specializes in robotic-assisted replacement surgery, complex joint reconstruction and hip and knee replacement procedures.
2. He is a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons.
3. He earned his medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C. He went on to complete a residency in orthopedic surgery at the Ohio-based University of Toledo and a fellowship at the Los Angeles-based Joint Replacement Institute.
