Stephen Duncan, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Lexington-based University of Kentucky, was selected for the prestigious John N. Insall Traveling Fellowship.
Here is what you need to know:
1. Dr. Duncan was chosen to participate in the fellowship the first time he applied for consideration. Starting in October, he will travel to 11 centers in 10 cities across two countries in order to learn more about orthopedic surgery and research.
2. Only four fellows are selected from around the world each year. Over the course of his fellowship, Dr. Duncan will develop and complete a research project, which he will then present at national meetings. He is interested in researching the benefits and drawbacks of traditional and contemporary total knee designs, identifying which design patients feel is more "normal" or similar to a healthy knee.
3. Dr. Duncan received his medical degree from Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He underwent fellowship training at Washington University in St. Louis.
