Healthgrades recognized Pa.-based Meadville Medical Center as one of "America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery and Joint Replacement Surgery."
Here are four things to know:
1. Healthgrades evaluated nearly 4,500 hospitals across the nation on 34 of the most common inpatient procedures and conditions, releasing the results on Feb. 6 in the Healthgrades 2018 Report to the Nation.
2. From 2014 to 2016, for instance, Medicare patients treated at hospitals receiving the "America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Award" had a 60.2 percent average lower risk of experiencing a complication while in the hospital than if they were treated in a hospital that did not receive the award. This statistic is based on Healthgrades' analysis of MedPAR data for years 2014 through 2016 and represent three-year estimates for Medicare patients only.
3. Meadville Medical Center has been named one of "America's 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery" for four years in a row and one of "America's 100 Best Hospitals for Joint Replacement Surgery" for seven consecutive years.
4. The hospital also received a "Five-Star Award for Treatment of Respiratory Failure in 2018."
