Queen Elizabeth II's husband Prince Philip Mountbatten was admitted to the King Edward VII Hospital in London for a previously scheduled hip surgery, according to Time.
Here are three things to know.
1. In 2017, the prince announced that he was retiring from most public duties. Buckingham Palace claimed he had carried out approximately 22,000 solo royal engagements since Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne in 1952.
2. Prince Philip was briefly hospitalized in 2011 for angioplasty treatment of a coronary artery blockage.
3. The surgery is scheduled April 4.
