Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement, becoming the first organization in Indiana to achieve this certification, the Muncie Journal reports.
The advanced certification was established in 2016 in response to an increasing number of patients undergoing THR or TKR surgery. The certification is awarded for a two-year period.
The Joint Commission conducted an onsite review of the hospital on Dec. 5 and 6, 2017, evaluating compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and THR and TKR requirements, including orthopedic consultation as well as preoperative, intraoperative and postsurgical orthopedic surgeon follow-up care.
